Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
More about Ginger:

My clients would describe me as honest and straightforward, but also kind and approachable. I am not the type of therapist to beat around the bush; my clients have frequently described me as a "no BS" therapist. I do like to utilize humor and sarcasm, and I consider myself to be funny. I like to make therapy comfortable and silly, but also supportive and serious when it needs to be.
My clients have described my style of therapy as unique, and I have tended to work well with people who have had bad prior experiences in therapy.
I take a more relational approach to therapy, which I have been told feels more comfortable and supportive. Your experiences are valid, and I hope to support you in creating more positive experiences moving forward.

I have specialized training and experience working with problematic sexual behaviors, complex trauma, abuse trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder, severe depression (including suicidal ideation and self-harm) and other mood disorders (including bipolar and dysthymia), anxiety disorders (including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder and social anxiety) and psychosis.
In addition, I have had the chance to work with all kinds of people, including those struggling with personality disorders, oppositional or disruptive behaviors, chronic stress, anger management, and more.

In addition to private practice, I’ve worked at all different levels of mental health care, including in-home services, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient therapy.
For several years, I worked with clients specifically addressing problematic sexual behaviors and trauma. Following this, I worked at a psychiatric hospital, providing therapy for a variety of disorders in an intensive care setting.
I’ve also worked in leadership roles, provided mentorship and clinical guidance to other therapists.
More about therapy in general:

There are so many ways that psychotherapy can help you (hence the name of my practice, Therapy Can Help, hehe). Off the top of my head, psychotherapy can help you feel better about yourself, clarify and live by your values, explore your identity, accept yourself, boost your self-esteem, change habits, process your trauma, find coping skills that work for you, set you up for success in your life, and more.
If you're seeking psychotherapy for your child, the same apply. In addition, psychotherapy for your child can help improve your relationship with them, relieve stress, decrease family dysfunction, decrease fights and conflicts, increase effective communication, and understand how your child is feeling and thinking.
You get out of therapy what you put into it. Coming into therapy ready to do the emotional work is going to get you the best outcome. It isn't going to be easy, but it will be worth the hard work.

Look, I'm not going to pretend that every single person in the mental health system is the best fit for you. Each individual therapist works in their own way. Some people are in the field when they shouldn't be. Some people don't have the experience you need. Sometimes, you just won't vibe with the therapist.
The mental health system as a whole is frustrating to work through, and it can be demoralizing trying to find the right fit.
Clients often come to me after having had bad experiences with other providers. I like to explore this further with my clients, and understand what wasn't working previously. I tend to take a more relational approach to therapy, which I have been told feels more comfortable and supportive. Your experiences are valid, and I hope to support you in creating more positive experiences moving forward. -
Psychotherapy sessions are 45 - 55 minutes long, and play therapy sessions are 35 - 45 minutes long.
I recommend meeting for weekly sessions, especially in the beginning. I find it’s important to gain some momentum in the beginning by meeting weekly, so progress doesn’t start to stall.
Once some or all of your goals are met, meeting less often will make sense. Some people will find that as they begin to heal and grow, fewer sessions are needed. Some people prefer the weekly support. We can talk about it to figure out what works for you.
More about logistics:
-
I have a 24-hour cancellation policy: cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Cancellations or missed appointments with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged the full session price. You may reschedule your appointment up to two hours before the scheduled session time for a $50 fee; if you reschedule less than two hours prior to the session, the full session price will be charged.
-
At this time, I do not accept insurance. I have a limited number of reduce fee sessions.
Visit the Rates and Fees page for more information about why private pay benefits my clients.
